Heather Lake Solo

Wow another beautiful paw "winter" day. With many families out for mid winter break I have never seen the Mt Pilchuck access road so incredibly packed. Cars lined both sides of the road all the way up to the trail head for Heather lake. I first stopped to use the out house before hitting the trail..without paying much attention I came out and start back on a trail into the woods. Quickly I lost the trail and was confused which way to continue. There was one guy out with his dog but I was to embraced to ask. After about 10 minutes of doubting myself I wandered back into the car where it became incredibly obvious that the actual trail head is across the road from the out house. haha I felt like a total dumby but was relieved to get going.

The trail was just as packed as the parking lot. Lots of families with small kids, and dogs running off leash. Most people were courteous, but others not so much. I have also been witnessing a recent trend of ppl who hike up with their dogs, the dog poos, they bag it...BUT then they leave the bag!! HELLO people that is actually not how it works. Some one did suggest that maybe they intend to pick it up on their way down, and I do hope that is the case. Please be responsible and help keep the trails in good shape.

A quick 4.6 miles with a little over 1000ft elevation gain I was up and to the lake in under an hour. I continued on the trail making a lap around the lake and taking in the views. However, it is quite unsettling to not see any trace of snow on the peaks at this time of year.

I have recently become memorized by our local old growth, and in particular the nurse logs that have new growth rising from them. If only trees could talk..
