Wallace & Eagle Falls

I am back in the PNW and taking full advantage of the beautiful area I live in, hiking and camping as much as possible!  Craving adventure.

The Wallace Falls State Park Management Area is a 4,735-acre camping park with shoreline on the Wallace River, Wallace Lake, Jay Lake, Shaw Lake and the Skykomish River. Located on the west side of the Cascade Mountains, the park features a 265-foot waterfall, old-growth coniferous forests, and fast- moving rivers and streams. Opportunities to view local wildlife, including cougar near Wallace Falls, and peregrine falcons inhabit the rock cliffs of the Index Town Wall.

Slightly steep elevation climb, but not more than 5 miles round trip, such a beautiful hike!

 Eagle Falls:
On our way home we stopped at one of my favorite places called Eagle Falls. Located just off the side of Hwy 22, mile marker 39.

When the river is running even moderately high, it's an impressive stretch of whitewater. The real attraction here, however, is the gorge and world-class swimming holes. Downstream of the falls, the granite bedrock has been sliced and thrust upwards, creating some very cool patterns in the water. At the mouth of the gorge is a huge pool, bigger than some named lakes I know of, which is a great place for swimming on a hot summer afternoon.

The water is so incredibly deep there is a 70 ft cliff jump where you jump from above the tree line, through the branches, and also so awesome rope swings. Gorgeous icy clear water allows you to see the impressive depths. The rocks are shockingly smooth and  carved out in incredible formations from the powerful water, definitely something worth seeing!
